I created the PRINTERS’ TAROT in 2017. As a student of letterpress printing, I have a deep love of letterforms and a belief that typography is full of magic.
The full 78-card black & white tarot deck is designed using only letterforms from the typeface Garamond to create the images. None of the letters were distorted to make the images; they were merely manipulated in space and layered. Garamond hails from roughly the same era and location as some of the first tarot decks.
This print is created from a photopolymer plate that was made from the original digital design of the card and letterpress printed by me in Portland, Maine.
